Zuma's House
Robert Zuma lived in this derelict caravan while he saved
the money he needed to build a house for himself from the proceeds of his small Spaza shop, selling sweets, cooldrinks and vetkoek
to the local community.
Amathuba stepped in to help speed up completion of the house,
providing the building materials while Robert, a carpenter
by profession, provided the labour. Robert is now busy constructing
a shed next to the house, where spare building materials and
tools can be stored.
Zuma is passionately committed to the Amathuba Project.
He organised and brought together the community of Embo to
support the project, and has travelled overseas to the UK and
USA with Suzy Lyle to promote and raise funds for Amathuba.
In his words, 'I was touched by the vision of Amathuba, because
I have come from poverty and want to make a difference in the
lives of our brothers and sisters.'
