Mr Mkhize's House
Poverty had overtaken MaMkhize’s household. Their house had given in to the constant battering from the wind and the rain. One side collapsed, leaving her and her children and grandchildren, numbering fifteen in all, with no shelter – totally open to the elements.
Amathuba’s Robert Zuma came to know of their plight. Plans were put in place and two camping tents were arranged and pitched as emergency relief.
Then the Amathuba machinery rolled into action. Construction of a proper house commenced and within a period of four weeks the tents were pulled down and MaMkhize and her family moved into their new house.
“Amathuba is now a part of me and my family. We were given a new lease of life. You can never know how good it feels to sleep without fear of the rain and the wind threatening to bring your home down on your sleeping kids. Now I walk in my community my head raised high, my pride restored. I want to thank Amathuba. May God bless all of them.”
