Goodness's House
This beautiful house, complete with indoor bathroom and
veranda overlooking the valley, was designed by Robert Zuma.
Goodness's old house was literally falling down around the
family. Apart from flooding whenever it rained, the back wall
had to be propped up with a pole and the roof could have been
blown off by the wind at any moment.
This was the situation that inspired Suzy and Robert to build
the first Amathuba house.
Goodness thanks Amathuba
A single mother of forty six, Goodness lived in a shack which was not even fit for goats. It stood on a hill overlooking other hills and a deep gorge stretching north to south.
She lived in that four by two meter shack with five other people, most of them little kids.
“We cooked in there; we bathed in there; we slept in there, and we kept all our worldly possessions in there,” says Goodness.
“We couldn’t sleep, especially when it rained. The shack would flood and the stones on the roof would fall down on us. But where would I ever get the money to rent anything better, let alone build my own house? Me? Never?”
“But God is indeed great. From nowhere, the guys from Amathuba said they were going to build me a house.
“I own this house, thanks to Amathuba. I now know how it feels to sleep well. I now let my friends visit me, which is something I never allowed in my shack days.”
The old shack still stands there, precariously supported by wires and poles, but it is now a storeroom for her garden tools. A newly installed mesh fence running right round her yard speaks of other things to come.
“Yes, I am starting a garden to supplement my earnings. The fence will keep the goats away.”
“We may not have much, but we have a decent home and it has unified us as a family.
Thank you Amathuba. Thank you for changing my life!”
